Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. Most people who go through traumatic events may have temporary difficulty adjusting and coping, but with time and good self-care, they usually get better. If the symptoms get worse, last for months or even years, and interfere with your day-to-day functioning, you may have PTSD.
PTSD symptoms typically manifests in 4 key ways:
- Intrusive, recurrent, distressing memories and/or dreams
- Avoidance of people, activities, and places that connect you to the trauma
- Negative changes in thinking and/or mood, memory problems, feelings of detachment or hopelessness
- Changes in physical or emotional reactions, being easily startled, trouble sleeping, or irritability.
Another component of post-traumatic stress disorder is survivor’s guilt. This occurs when the affected person does not believe they deserve to have survived while others have been injured or died.
How We Help
Post-traumatic stress disorder can disrupt your whole life ― your job, your relationships, your health and your enjoyment of everyday activities. I will teach you techniques that will move you through and beyond your PTSD. PTSD is something that affects your life in a comprehensive way, so this recovery process is equally comprehensive.
These techniques will help you process the root causes of your PTSD, provide you with guidance and direction for reflecting on these causes, and retrain your thoughts to focus on self-growth and self-understanding. This reconditioning helps shift your focus away from the causes of your trauma and back onto yourself.
